Ozaukee County Courthouse

Port Washington, Wisconsin

The initial scope was a comprehensive finish study to uncover the original finishes and decoration in the historic courtroom and determine the best treatment program to conserve the existing historic hand painted decoration found behind a modern dropped ceiling. After executing a mock-up, Historic Surfaces LLC was then hired to complete the restoration and conservation of decorative finishes. The original mural panel in the front of the courtroom no longer existed so a new mural was repainted using archival photos. The restoration project also included painted finish conservation, plaster consolidation and repair, general painting, replicating historic stenciling and hand painted decoration.
